Our New Website: Built in 3 Weeks with AI and Craftsmanship

Technology is advancing at a breathtaking pace. What is announced today can be in production tomorrow – at Automatify, new technologies often make their way into customer projects just three to four months after launch. This speed is our daily business. Only one area couldn't keep up: our own website.

The Problem: A CMS as a Bottleneck

Our previous website ran on WordPress. Every content change that went beyond a simple text swap meant one thing: adapting or extending a template. In practice, that meant formulating requirements precisely, handing them over to the agency, waiting, reviewing, iterating. A process that could take weeks – for changes that were clear in our heads within an hour.

This wasn't the agency's fault. It was the setup: dependencies on external resources, combined with a technical architecture in which design, structure, and content are too tightly coupled. For a company that helps its customers eliminate exactly these kinds of bottlenecks, this became increasingly hard to accept.

The Question I Asked Claude

At the beginning of summer, I asked Claude a simple question: How do I change this? I want to build pages with AI – and still be able to maintain the content properly, without needing a developer for every text change.

The answer was a clear architecture proposal: Claude Design → GitHub → Vercel, with Sanity as a headless CMS. Design and structure are created with AI, the code is versioned and deployed automatically, and the content lives separately in a CMS that anyone on the team can use.

I took this idea to our engineering team and asked: Is this realistic to build?

The Implementation: Short, Focused, with the Right Skills

To cut a long story short: after a short time, the entire infrastructure was up and running. The individual components were connected through an automated pipeline – from design through the repository to deployment.

What it took: one full-stack developer who selected the right open-source components and assembled them into a robust solution. No months-long project organization, no large team. But also no "the AI will handle it" – it took someone who understands the architecture and knows where the pitfalls are.

The Result: Two Tools, Clear Roles

Today, maintaining our website works like this:

  • Website changes and extensions – new sections, layouts, entire pages – we build with Claude Design. An idea becomes a live page in hours, not weeks.
  • Content – texts, news, blog posts, roundtable entries – we maintain directly in Sanity. No developer, no agency, no waiting.

The website now keeps pace with us.

What This Has to Do with Our Project Work

Looking back at this internal project, we saw many parallels to our daily work for customers. New technology – AI in particular – enables approaches that allow tasks to be delivered significantly faster and at lower cost than just two years ago.

But: without mastering the craft, it gets difficult. AI delivers speed; the quality and robustness of the solution come from people who understand architecture, data flows, and operations.

That is as true for the project called "New Website" as it is for "Patient Referral" at a hospital. The technology is new – the demand for solid engineering remains.

Let’s talk about your process.
